Dr. Galen Schneider is currently the Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics at the University Of Iowa College Of Dentistry. He obtained his D.D.S. in 1991 from the University of Iowa; and a Prosthodontic Certificate and Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University Of North Carolina in 1996. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics; and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists. His current research interests include modifying implant surfaces at a nanoscale level to control gene activation in bone cells to regulate osseointegration. In addition his laboratory is working on novel translational methods to engineer osseous tissue in three dimensional environments to develop autogenous tissues from stem cells or mesenchymal cells that could someday be used to graft osseous defects. He currently serves as a basic science section editor for Journal of Prosthodontics; and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for numerous other scientific and clinical journals. In addition, he has served, or is serving, on committees or study sections for the International and American Associations for Dental Research, the American College of Prosthodontists, and the National Institutes of Health.
